1972年より「週刊マーガレット」（集英社）にて連載され、現在累計発行部数は2000万部を突破。
不自由な時代の中で、身分や性別を乗り越え自身の手で人生を選びとり、フランス革命へと飛び込んでいく美しいオスカルの生き様は、少女たちの共感、そして憧れを一身に集めた。連載中から読者の熱狂的な支持を集めた本作は、その後、宝塚歌劇団による舞台化やTVアニメ化もされ、日本中で社会現象となった。
――そして2025年新春、ついに完全新作での劇場アニメ上映が決定。
1972年の連載開始から50年以上の時を経てなお、全く色あせない『ベルサイユのばら』の世界。そしてオスカル達の生き様。

■STORY
将軍家の跡取りで、“息子”として育てられた男装の麗人オスカル・フランソワ・ド・ジャルジェ。
隣国オーストリアから嫁いできた気高く優美な王妃マリー・アントワネット。
オスカルの従者で幼なじみの平民アンドレ・グランディエ。
容姿端麗で知性的なスウェーデンの伯爵ハンス・アクセル・フォン・フェルゼン。
彼らは栄華を誇る18世紀後半のフランス・ベルサイユで出会い、時代に翻弄されながらも、それぞれの運命を美しく生きる。

Set during the French Revolution, Riyoko Ikeda’s manga, “The Rose of Versailles” vividly portrays the lives and love of people striving to live with passion.
Serialized in Shueisha’s “Weekly Margaret” magazine starting in 1972, “The Rose of Versailles” manga series has now surpassed total circulation of 20 million copies.
Following Oscar’s beautiful way of life as she transcends social class and gender to choose her own destiny and diving into the French Revolution, the series garnered empathy and admiration from countless girls of the time.
The series, gaining fervent support from readers, went on to be adapted into a stage production by the Takarazuka Revue and an animated television series, all becoming a national phenomenon in Japan.

Oscar François de Jarjayes, raised as the “son” and heir of a general’s family, masquerades as a beautiful woman in men’s clothing.
Marie Antoinette arriving from neighboring Austria as a bride to become a noble and graceful queen..
Oscar’s servant and childhood friend, the commoner André Grandier.
Hans Axel von Fersen, a handsome and intelligent count from Sweden.
They meet in Versailles, France in the prosperous late 18th Century and live their respective destinies beautifully while being tossed about by the tides of times.
