Eimi Wakui|J.S. Bach: Partita for Violin Solo No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1004 – Allemande, Courante
Partita No. 2 in D minor for solo violin, BWV 1004, was composed by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) between 1717 and 1720. It is one of a series of works he composed called Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin.
Partita No. 2, with its four dances (Allemande, Courante, Sarabande and Gigue) followed by a long Chaconne, is known as one of the most famous works in this collection of Bach’s compositions. It is the first and second pieces, the Allemande and Courante, that I performed in this video. Allemande and Courante are Renaissance and Baroque dances, often the first and second movements of a Baroque dance suite.
The chaconne is often the focus of attention, but I feel that all of the other four pieces are excellent.
