Japan declares states of emergency in Tokyo, Osaka and 2 other areas just 3 months before Olympics

Japan has declared a state of emergency for Tokyo, Osaka and two other prefectures for the third time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The restrictions are said to be the strongest yet, and will take effect on April 25 for at least two weeks. The country is struggling to contain its fourth wave of infections, exactly three months before the Olympic Games. Meanwhile, as a gesture of solidarity for citizens, lawmakers have offered to take a 20% pay cut from May to October.
